It's time to talk about saying farewell...

The loss of a loved one is such a difficult time; as well as dealing with your loss you are faced with so many decisions to make all at once and you just want to get it right. Your head is whirling with what hymns, Eulogies and finger buffets. Flowers are so often an afterthought, yet they adorn the focal point of the service and represent the person you are saying farewell to.

Sometimes it is just so much easier to plump for the first flowers in the funeral director’s catalogue - often made to a formula without considering seasonality or the environmental impact of the materials used to create the designs. No two people are the same and nor should the floral tribute at their funeral be!

Each tribute that I create is unique and personal to the person whose life you are celebrating.

Funeral flowers are an important way to honour the life and values of the departed. Choosing sustainable options and avoiding plastics and foam can make the tribute even more meaningful. Let me help you create a beautiful and eco-friendly arrangement to say goodbye in the most special of ways. Something that can be fully compostable or perhaps repurposed and used afterwards.

Choosing British, locally grown flowers for your loved ones final journey can only be a good thing.  I am always happy to work with the family to create something really special, something that really reflects the person whose life you are celebrating and even something that will last longer than just the service.

As well as the more traditional ideas, some other options can include:

  • Arrangements can be made up of a number of different posies so mourners can take a memory home with them.

  • A floral tribute created with, or including foliage and blooms from the departed's own garden.

  • A living floral tribute made of potted plants which can be planted in memory after the service.

You don't just have to take my word for it - there is a great new directory in town - called Farewell Flowers where you can find a like minded florist near you.

Don't settle for the prescriptive and boring, for the unseasonal, imported and plastic. Wouldn't you rather have something natural, beautiful and individual? Make that focal point something that really and truly represents the life you are celebrating.

This year I'm..........

Obviously the 1st January is often a time for reflection on the year past and hope and ambition for the future. This year I'm not going...

and that's a wrap.... or is it?

And just like that the flower garden has receded into its winter slumber! There is still the odd Dahlia and Zinnia desperately trying to...
